• Biography

    Oana Lianu, the most glamouros and gifted Panpipe's woman artist of our time, was born on March 7, 1976, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in a loving family devoted to folklore. Her father, Ion Lianu, is one of the most endowed and well known artists of wind instruments (taragot, pipe, long pipe, bagpipe, ocarina, Jew's harp), trained in the Romanian national ensemble Martisorul led by Dumitru Farcas. Her mother, Doina, also sang as a student on the same Romanian folklore festival stages as this ensemble, where she was to meet her future husband. Thus, the future Princess of Panpipe had a very favorable environment for the development of the artistic skills she showed early on.

  • Academic Career

    PhD in Music (Summa cum laude) at the age of 29, Oana Lianu has a very impressive academic itinerary. Her books and publications dedicated to panpipe and Romanian folk music forms ones of the most important teaching materials as aids to the knowledge of Romanian music and wind instruments. Oana Lianu belongs to a very rare category, of those who are gathering in a perfect way the academic career with the artistic one. Her students have great results at the National and International Folklore Festivals, promoting as well as Romanian folklore and traditional culture.

  • Appreciations

    • 2011, December - Certificate of  Excellence on 2012 is awarded by The Romanian Christian Society Dorul from New York, to Mrs Oana Lianu, Ass.Prof.Dr., as an expression of the high appreciation for the devotion to the cultural values presented at the Annual Academic Symposium „Mihai Eminescu”
    • 2011, November - Diploma of Excellence is awarded Mrs Ass.Prof.Dr. Oana Lianu for the support of the cultural life of Gorj county, at The 8th edition of The Romanian National folklore Contest Maria Lătăreţu, The great singer Birth Centenary
    • 2011, October - Diploma of Gratitude is awarded Mrs Ass.Prof.Dr. Oana Lianu by The Foundation for Education, Culture and Health de Renasterea, for the support against the breast cancer
